Naomi Judd‘s youngest daughter Ashley delivered a speech that traced the life of her mother from Kentucky’s humble beginnings to superstardom.

Ashley Judd cried, “We are here tonight to remember an icon and a legendary who left country music better than she found it,” Ashley Judd stated.

“She was every woman. The actor suggested that this may be why people felt like they knew her. She was a nurse. She was a single mother who relied sometimes on public assistance. She suffered traumatization from early childhood sexual abuse, intimate partner violence, and even rape. Her boss fired her after she refused to leave him for a weekend.

“Tonight we remember her in music,” said the actor, introducing Wynonna, Wynonna’s sister who sang “River of Time”.
